STATUS: ACCEPTEDZero-Downtime Blue-Green Deployment Strategy for Multi-Tenant SaaS
Author: SRE & Infrastructure Squad
#DevSecOps#Docker#Traefik#Zero-Downtime#CI/CD
1. Context & Problem Statement
Multi-tenant SaaS products and quantitative trading bots cannot tolerate downtime or dropped WebSocket connections during continuous deployments. Rolling restarts on single container instances dropped active trading sessions and voice call streams.
2. Decision
We implemented an automated Blue-Green deployment architecture orchestrating containerized application pairs behind a dynamic Traefik reverse proxy. Health check probes verify readiness and database schema compatibility before traffic cutover, maintaining active connections gracefully.
3. Consequences & Trade-Offs
Positive Outcomes
100% zero-downtime releases with instantaneous cutover and 1-click automated rollback
Elimination of dropped WebSocket sessions and active telephony calls during daytime deployments
Automated smoke testing against idle color before routing production traffic
Negative / Trade-Offs
Requires 2x transient compute memory overhead during active cutover window
Mitigation Strategies
Provisioned high-memory Hetzner bare-metal instances with dynamic swap allocation
