#Python 3.12#Docker#Asyncio#PEP 695#High Availability
1. Context & Problem Statement
Disparate Python versions across 7 microservices caused dependency conflicts, build slowdowns, and incompatible asyncio event loop semantics.
2. Decision
We standardized all Python services on Python 3.12-slim base images, adopted PEP 695 type parameter syntax, unified lockfiles with deterministic constraints, and established high-availability health checks.
3. Consequences & Trade-Offs
Positive Outcomes
15-20% execution speedup from Python 3.12 specialized bytecodes
Consistent dependency graphs and reduced Docker image sizes
Predictable asynchronous concurrency across high-throughput WebSocket handlers
Negative / Trade-Offs
Required updating legacy third-party libraries incompatible with Python 3.12 C-API changes
Mitigation Strategies
Pinned modern wheels and validated all unit test suites against Python 3.12
