STATUS: ACCEPTEDRFC 8288 Link Headers & ARD Manifests for Autonomous AI Agent Discovery
Author: AI & Knowledge Engineering Squad
#GEO#AEO#Agentic-Web#RFC8288#RFC9728
1. Context & Problem Statement
The web is rapidly shifting from human-only visual browsing to autonomous AI agent navigation. Autonomous agents (Cursor, Claude Code, ChatGPT Agent, Perplexity) need machine-readable discovery chains to discover APIs, authentication methods, skills, and model consumption policies without parsing messy HTML.
2. Decision
We implemented the complete Agent-Native suite across all SmarteeDigital domains: RFC 8288 Link response headers advertising api-catalog, service-doc, and oauth-protected-resource; ARD 1.0 manifest (ai-catalog.json); RFC 9728 OAuth Protected Resource Metadata; WorkOS agent_auth specification; and the standardized /llms.txt suite.
3. Consequences & Trade-Offs
Positive Outcomes
Achieved Level 5 Agent-Native status (100/100 score on isitagentready.com)
Autonomous AI agents can query tools, read documentation, and register credentials programmatically
Direct citation and ingestion prioritization by LLM answer engines (Perplexity, ChatGPT, Claude)
Negative / Trade-Offs
Requires continuous monitoring of emerging RFC standards and schema specifications
Mitigation Strategies
Automated Vitest test suites running in CI to verify all RFC endpoints and hash digests on every build
